The Local Area
The small costal village of St Bees, famous for being the start of the Coast to Coast Walk, is just a 10 minute walk across the rolling fields. The Priory of St Mary and St Bega at St Bees is one of the finest church buildings in the country, dating back to 1120 and well worth a visit. The West Door is one of the finest examples of Norman architecture in the country. Evening meals and several bars can be found in St Bees. The historic Georgian town of Whitehaven is a 5 minute drive where you’ll find a wide choice of bars and restaurants. The heart of the Lake District is within easy reach - Keswick being around 40 minutes by road; Windermere and Kendal can be reached in 90 minutes. Ennerdale and Wastwater are about a 30 minute drive from Rottington. Sellafied Site is also easily reached within 20 minutes.
